WHY SHOULD I JOIN ALL THE OTHER YOGA CRAZIES?

The fascination with yoga is not a new one and you're probably wondering why you should get in on it too. Are yogi's just crazy people who need a new obsession in life or is yoga something that you lack in your life and are actually just missing out on?


Below we've put together a list of why yoga IS something you're missing out on - and are crazy for not including in your life. 


REASON NUMBER ONE


Practicing yoga can not only help you look great but also FEEL great. Yoga is good for your mental health in numerous ways. 


  • Forces you to exercise mindfulness - mindfulness is grounding your mind in being present and focused on the current moment. This can improve your brain health, concentration and memory as well as improving your control of your emotional responses. 
  • Relief for your stress and anxiety - Yoga demands your focus and attention and the benefit of entering into a state of mindfulness is that it forces you to slow down and calm your mind. 
  • Improved self-awareness - Another benefit of yoga for your state of mind is increased self-awareness as it allows for immersive self-reflection. 

REASON NUMBER TWO


The most obvious benefit of yoga is the physical health benefits.  


  • Improved heart health - studies have shown that practicing can help reduce risk factors for heart-related illnesses. This may have to do with the effect yoga has on decreasing stress and lowering your blood pressure. 
  • Leads to better sleep & quality of life - Yoga can improve your quality of sleep which goes a long way towards improving the overall quality of your life and your bodies abilities to fight illness and infection. Practicing yoga has shown to increase the secretion of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep and wakefulness. 
  • Improves flexibility & balance - An obvious one but practising yoga is great for your flexibility and balance as you're putting your body through great stretches and a balancing exercise by trying to pull off those poses!
  • Improved breathing - Another benefit has to do with your breathing which you learn to regulate and control when practising yoga. This can be really good for your lung & heart health. 
  • Increased strength - Another obvious benefit but holding those poses takes a lot of strength which you'll start to build up the more you practice yoga. 

REASON NUMBER THREE


By practising yoga and creating a routine for it, this encourages the formulation of other healthy habits. You may find that you naturally start to feel more conscious of your eating habits and the rest that you're getting as well as undertaking practices that improve muscle recovery such as foam rolling. Any and all of these habits will improve your quality of life by a lot. 



HOW TO GET STARTED


If the thought of thumping on down to your nearest yoga studio is too daunting a start, you can always get yourself a mat and practice in the privacy of your home first. There are so many amazing yoga for beginner videos on youtube that you can practice with until you've built up your strength, flexibility and confidence to practice in a room with others.

On average it can take up to 66 days to build a new habit. So it is best to just stick with it and keep going even if there are days where you skip your routine. Be kind and patient with yourself and you'll get there! Namaste!
