The Hibiscus Flower range was inspired by the artwork created by Kasakai Nona. Michael Kasakai Nona, a Torres Strait Islander man.
Kasakai is an up and coming artist from the Argun Tribe of Badu Island. He creates paintings, wood carvings and lino prints. He has worked in crayfishing since he was 17 and so most of his artworks are story about his reflections of his life, what he has seen and experienced as a crayfisherman.
Kasakai's Story
This painting represents a custom of the island people.
"According to an island clan's customs...when a male finds a soul mate, he puts 2 hibiscus flowers on his ears. He walks up to his soul mate, pulls one out of his ear and tucks it behind his soul mates ear. It means you are sharing a part of your heart with her.”
